If i sell something to a company which has outstanding hpi on it and the company clears the the hpi?

what happens if the amount i get for the iteam i sell dosent clear the amount i owe on hp do i have too clear the difference there and then when i sell the item

Check you HPI contract details.

My unmderstanding is that in most cases you don't actually own the item unutill you pay off the contract in full.

Thus, selling the item is theft.
