DAYTON, Ohio - A woman accused of killing her daughter by microwaving the newborn in an oven told police she was drunk, but couldn't recall doing anything that caused the child's burns, according to testimony Thursday..........

Shouldn't punishments fit the crime?

It should fit the crime and maybe its time for an adult size microwave to be made just for that purpose.. In reality this will never happen. The death penalty may be given but that is just a guarantee of being alive for at least 18 more years. The death penalty will not be given.

Maybe 30 years with the first 5 in a mental institute. Then mom will decide the general population is better than the mental unit.

About the only thing that keeps me from getting rabid on this is I feel she'll get her punishment along the line.

In my opinion the punishment should indeed fit the crime, but I doubt you will see the death penalty imposed in this case. By the time this case goes to court the attorneys will find some underlying mania or mental defect on which to base a sympathy defense. The idea of killing a baby is offensive to most, no matter what the circumstances, but if you look at cases with parallels to this one where mothers kill their children the death penalty never comes into play. If she was drunk when the crime was committed most likely we will see a defense of alcoholism as a disease and how alcoholics are not really responsible for their actions while intoxicated.

that's my handle it. I totally settle for the basis that there'll constantly be the prospect (distant yet achieveable) that an harmless guy or woman would be placed to dying. yet to that I say, there is not any suited equipment. There at the instant are not any suited human beings. yet as some distance using fact the basis that taking that guy or woman's lifestyles in blunders is someway the worst achieveable evil that would desire to take place is disingenuous. I argue and the data help, that a accountable guy or woman sentenced to capital punishment or perhaps lifestyles imprisonment is a few distance greater in all probability to take yet another harmless lifestyles. human beings on dying row have already killed reformatory workers besides as different inmates. Why do not their lives rely? The equipment does each and everything humanly achieveable to sidestep blunders. It delivers automatic overview and attraction of each and every case for years on end. yet, harmless human beings die all for the duration of that technique on the palms of those convicts. however the fighters of Cap Pun in basic terms look to lament the dying of the convict. They unfastened sleep over the distant threat that an harmless guy or woman would be placed to dying yet not the lots greater in all probability threat he will kill lower back if he has the prospect. the reality that some human beings have had their Cap Pun sentence overturned isn't evidence that the equipment is incorrect yet extremely that it incredibly works. *

Yes. Whats really strange is that I have heard this story before, from a person I was working with. She had been in jail for check fraud, and said that one of the women in jail with her had microwaved her baby after a "home abortion". She said the woman was laughing about it. Maybe its the same women, I am from Ohio too. I think she should definitely be "nuked", along with all the other child exploiting psychopaths and crackheads around here. I am getting weary of these people, I'm out of compassion for all these addicts. Sometimes I wish the government would just take them away, put them on some sort of reservation, sterilize them and build a 100 foot wall around them before they have a chance to screw up the lives of the innocents.

This is one of the sickest stories I've read in a long time.

However, I don't think anything justifies the death penalty. There is nothing to be accomplished by taking yet another life. It just adds additional heartbreak to the world.

I'm all for bringing back the stocks, the pillory, and the whipping posts. I'm also all about lifelong imprisonment and enduring humiliation.

The older I get, the more firm in my stance against the death penalty I become, and while I find this story abhorring, I cannot allow it to dissuade me from the principles on which I stand.

Sometimes I think that folks that do that kind of stuff should get an eye for an eye...That is that she should be microwaved.

Othertimes, I'm convinced that we should bring back public stoning and let the masses take care of her.

And still other times, I think that death is too good for those who have wreaked such havoc, and that the person should rot in jail the rest of their natural lives. And I don't mean an air conditioned prison with cable tv and amenities...I mean something like what I envision a Turkish prison to be...hard labor...gruel for food...a pot in the corner to void in that is rarely dumped...hard floor to sleep on, etc.

Other times I think the Middle Easterners who do public executions in the form of beheading in public squares are the way to go.

Different times, different thoughts.

At the very least, maybe they should sterilize the person, so that she cannot have any other children.

Saddest thing about America is Cruel and Unusual punishment doesn't apply to the victems only the criminals.

She will probably get 12 years in jail and serve 4.

No child should have had to endure that. I believe the child is now comforted, and the punishment should indeed fit the crime. At times like these, i wish they would bring back crucifiction.

This is just sick. What the hell is a mother doing getting drunk around her children. That poor baby. She should definitely get the death penalty. This can never happen again.
