I am wanting to upgrade the 80Gb HDD with a 500Gb HDD but not sure what type of HDD it is.

I am slowly getting to know my ports and slots.

Any advice would be greatfully appreciated.

HI , you will have to look inside if your drive has a thick ribbon like band then it is ide with lots of little pins in it where you pug the lead in.

with the sata drive there is a thin connecting cable .

both are very easy to install sata 11 drives should give you faster performance,

when you buy your drive if it is a sata ask at the shop for advice ,
and check with your pc manufacture if it takes sata drives

down load belarc adviser and that will tell you all about your pc , what you have in it and what programs you have on it also gives you the keys of the programs hope this has been helpful to you alec

IDE hard drive - I have a Dell Dimension 4600 and have upgraded it, another option would be an external hard drive which are great for storage and you do not have to lose your original hard drive or fiddle about inside your computer.
