I think I can safely assume that these are big black ants... very likely carpenter ants. They often seek out water sources and the condensation on pipes is very appealing to them.

Carpenter ants will often congregate inside a wall near the water source but the ultimate solution is to find the nest. If you've only been seeing them for a short while, odds are that they haven't established a primary nest inside a wall yet. So...

Begin by checking around the foundation of the house. Look for a single line of ants working their way to the house, and follow this line back to the mound. This will be their primary nest. A fairly cheap do-it-yourself method to destroy the nest is to take a metal bar of some sort (about 3' long) and poke holes down into the nest. Then saturate the entire nest with kerosene (2-3 Gal.) & cover it with a plastic dropcloth. Leave it on for about 3-5 days. This will kill the nest.

Meanwhile, back in the house... get some Ortho ant bait & distribute some of it in the areas you're seeing them most. This is available at most home improvement stores like Lowe's & Home Depot.

A more aggressive approach is to go to doyourownpestcontrol.com & buy an aerosol ant killer with a spray tube. Drill 1/8" holes about 16" apart approximately 6" above the floor in the wall that has the water lines. Then put the spray nozzel through the holes & spray for about 10 sec. per hole. Repeat every few days until you no longer see ants.

Either way, the main thing is to find and destroy the nest.

Don't call a pest control company unless all of the above fails to solve the problem. They charge too much & will try to lock you into a long-term contract. Good Luck!

We simply put 'Taro" on small cardboard pieces around the area infested, it takes a few days, the ants are gone that quick.
Look around the foundation of the house. You will see where they're coming from. Put some "Taro" here it will help to get rid of them.
