Leagues in Japan, Mexico, South America, and some of the Islands are much better. You don't see too many players coming to MLB from Europe.

Since someday the World Series will be just that, I think baseball in Europe deserves a little attention. In Italy they've played baseball for decades now. If soccer isn't ever going to be popular in the US, it makes sense for the US as baseball ambassador to take baseball to Europe.

I played ball in Spain for 2 years and there are some good players but for the most part they were no where near the level of the main baseball powers in the world! I will say how ever that Italy has some damm good players. Remember Spain didn't start playing ball until 1969 and Italy started back in WWII because the American G.I.'s brought it there!
