No body can protect a thing like culture, which is never static. At any one time in a history,a cultural substratum of a society is based the 'social aggregate acceptance' by it.Any culture which tries to isolate itself from main stream life patterns of it's society is likely to get marginalised, rejected and decayed.More than any culture,it's the 'CORE VALUES' which rarely change[may get modified though],which are of paramount importance to a society.Take Hinduism, not as a religion but a way of life.Through many incarnations of cultures and sub cultures during it's long history,it tried to retain it's core values and survived.Do we get it right?

I sympathise with your concern. The other day I was at McDonalds in New Delhi - obviously not a lovers point - and I was embarassed to see the behaviour of the couple next to me. The way they were cuddling, kissing and all, It was indeed a cultural shock for me and I did feel concerned about protecting our culture.
But then I recollected my grad days lectures. And then came some wonderful insights.
There is nothing in a culture which demands to be protected. To talk of protection of culture is a myth. All the cultures of the world have been influenced by others through amalgamation or acculturation. There is no pure culture as such. And there can never be. Even if someone annihilates all others to keep one culture pure, the same culture may develop a subculture within and split later in a distinct form.
The fact that the borders of all cultures have always been porous makes them strong and helps to grow rich and refined.
If India would have been sheilded since ancient times - there would be no Taj - (which is a blend of several architecture styles), no Gandhara statues of Buddha, and I hate to say - no Kababs.
So the idea is - lets come above our share of cultural shocks and contribute to build a richer heterogenous culture which is tolerant to all substreams of culture. There is hardly anything to be protected. To protect is to stunt the groth.

Afterall, a couple of years back I may have been the cause of shock to someone at some place without my realising it.

why would u want to. In some instances, change is good, and u'll never know it unless the change takes place. But if u want to keep the culture the same way it's always been...go backwards. Keep all ur kids IN the country, don't send them out for better paying jobs(ie...a better life). Because no matter what, the culture of where u live will rub off on u some. Then, don't invite the culture in at any cost. India has embraced American and other national products since there's a demand for them, and they like foreign coin. But that's what destroys culture. Because ppl are curious about what they don't know, so they go after it, they want better socio economics, aNd currently, globalization is the way to go...and the backlash is...cultural dececration. There are places in Africa that are still tribal, and the ppl are uneducated...but the culture is intact. If u want to fix the cultural state of India, get on the govt. Many ppl wouldn't be trying to get out/send their kids out of the country if they could live in India securely and peacefully...but at this time, it is not possible...everyone wants, needs, and sometimes deserve more than India is willing to provide, so they seek it somewhere else, and the influences stick.

Which culture do you want to protect? I'm not at all for protecting some cultures, and think the world as a whole might benefit if certain cultures ceased to exist.

Are you aware there are MANY cultures? Many sub-cultures also exist within these groups, but here are but a few.

American , English, Irish, Scot; French, Italian, German. There are cultures that are Christian, and Islamic; there are cultures that are Buddhist; some cultures consider only Roman Catholicism as the right Christian Church; some consider the Roman Catholics to be non-Christian.

I suppose you want whatever your little group is to be the only and number one culture of the world.
SO DID ADOLPH HITLER.

Culture will be protected by following it. You follow and set example to people who know you. But do not become fanatic about following it, otherwise the effect will be reversed in most of the cases.

cultures developed in different religions, castes..
If people had faith in casts.. then they can realize their importance.... But todays administration is such that for its political selfishness in the name of unity/reservation creating disputes between all the castes... so people getting racially angry about one another... if such bad political behaviors removed then people had their faiths in their casts and religions,,,
then they can surely work for individual racial improvement...
because Culture doesn't belongs to a single race..
it is a group of races evolving together...

one biggest thing is if we discuss about India.. the subject are more attracted towards the western culture because of globalisation ... They are blindly accepting all the aspects which insults Indian culture .. they are supporting themselves as the modern architects of the Indian culture but doesn't understand that they are like the insects destroying a green tree.. First they had to realize that they are the fruits are that tree and not to destroy... Their parents had to play a good role in enlighting them about our/ about a particular culture..

!!!! but this is my dream in fact.....

There's no reason to protect culture. Individuality is all that matters. The sooner we realize that the better.
