The criteria should be, age, experience to go with the age, actual playing records in the past, proven record of successful performance as coach at some level with consistency, and a pleasant personality and ability to interact with and motivate young players, winning their confidence and friendship alike! But it seems there is more than meets the eyes, there are some opinion oriented, subjective, biased, criteria as well, not clear to the general public following the intricacies of the game and activities associated with the game!

Basically a coach in cricket at international level hasn't much coaching to do. He should be a good strategist, a good advisor and a good planner. He should sense the mood of the game especially when the chips are down and give instructions to the players to overcome the situation.

He should be a great player technically and his physical personality must be big, like viv rechards . board should first of all learn that when somebody is intrested to coach your team ,then why should u give chances to somebody who is not so popular in his country. so viv richards would be a great asset for team india. even no player will say any words against him.
