You can upgrade your firmware on your iPod through iTunes. iTunes is available as a free download through apple.com.

The new iTunes version 7 upgrades your ipod without the extra software. Download and install from www.apple.com . Plug in your ipod and then the screen will come up with a picture of your ipod and it will say restore and update. Press update and the iTunes will check if you have the latest ipod version.

When I plug my iPod into iTunes, it automatically tests for newer software, and if I approve, it installs oit too.
I don't think I would trust anyone else right now.
