They just make this crap up as they go along I think quite frankly. What's really horrible is, let's say that you have a kid who is like.......21. And you have a house and he lives in your basement, like has it set up as a little apartment sort of. And he's not cookin up meth or anything, but he's dealin rock out of your house, so there is no way of you really knowing about it cuz you never go down there into his area where he stays. And the cops are on to him and one day they bust in to your house and he's got like $100,000 of the stuff down there. Not only do they bust him, but they can bust you and take your house from you. And even if you had no idea the stuff was in your house you lose your home. You probably won't do time, but they can still take your house, and they will just because they can.

California Health and Safety Code allows forfeiture of a vehicle used for drug possession. And California Vehicle Code § 14607.6 allows forfeiture of a vehicle if the driver/owner has a suspended/revoked license and is a repeat offender.
Other than that, I cannot find any reference to forfeiture being allowed if the vehicle contained stolen parts or for drag racing.

It wasn't the cops. It was the judges decision, and he has the power of punishment in any way sees fit.
I think we should have more creative judgment like this as it does wonders for justice.

If your car was an instrumentality of a crime, e.g. you used it as a get-away car, or used it to transport drugs, or as your place to engage in prostitution it can be seized under asset forfeiture laws.
