Well, the the thing that releases the most stress for me is to cry until I'm exhausted or bored with crying :)
At that point, I either (if I'm exhausted) go to sleep, listening to music as I nod off to clear my mind, or (if I'm bored) watch a funny movie or read an amusing book.
Yes, there are times when I've sobbed for a couple hours, then said, "Hmmm. This is not doing anything for me. I'll go watch some Fraser."

I will try to watch a sad movie when I want to cry-and then I do just that. I do not want to explain to anyone why I am sad and crying so the movie is my "reason"

I sit down and write all of the things that happen to me in the last week that were good. You'll be surprised who much good has happened to you in the last seven days. Some times we have to remind ourselves that good things really do happen to us. I can't really promise you that it will make things all better but it will help you put a better perspective on the situation.

I sometimes find a reason to cry so that way I have a good reason then after that well.. My boyfriend will make me laugh and then I start feeling a lot better.

sometimes when im sad i just need time alone. however, i've found that going for walks.. jogs or just an outdoor setting with a friend(s) really helps. it detracts your thoughts and before you know it, you forget about what may have been bothering you.

Spending time alone. Writing it down (Corny, but works) I just need time to myself to resolve issues.
