No. Rose didn't get a raw deal. He broke the rules and bet on baseball.
Do I think he deserves to be in the hall, yes but with an * , Give his accomplishments AND detail his gambling activities.

Pete Rose agreed to a ban from baseball so his gambling would not be made public. It's time for Pete Rose and people who like him to take their bat and go home. It's over for Pete Rose. The rules say he can NEVER get into the HOF. And that's what he bargained for. If he werent so arrogant, perhaps it might have been different. But in EVERY clubhouse there is a sign that says there is no gambling allowed in baseball. Every baseball player knows that gambling will result in a lifelong ban. What makes Pete Rose think it doesnt apply to him?
This question implies that baseball did him wrong. The fact is, it's the other way around.
EDIT: For MOJO
Giamattie was not president of the National League. He was the Commissioner of Baseball, like Selig. And a genius to boot.

Yes, he got a raw deal. He belongs in the hall of fame. I think he will eventually be in the hall of fame, but he will never know it.

Whats the big deal about gambling anyhow???? Whats the big deal about betting on your own team? LOL. Anyone ever remember hearing about the Chicago Black Sox Scandal? Because of that there is a little sign in every clubhouse that reads, "You do not associate with gamblers in any form." Pete Rose did that. Because of that Pete Rose was banned from baseball. Because Pete Rose was banned from baseball he will not be elected to the HOF.
Rose did it to himself.

If you go to Cooperstown you WILL see exhibits honoring the on-field accomplishments of Pete. He just can't have a little copper plaque. That's all.
Pete knew his career numbers were good enough to get him into the hall but decided to throw it away by doing the One Thing baseball can't forgive --- letting gamblers and gambling ruin the integrity of the games being played. He knew it was wrong, but decided to do it anyway. Pete made a horrible choice, but his penalty isn't severe.
His real problem is the gambling addiction itself.

the slipster.........what the hell are you talking about?giamatti was never affiliated with the mets.he was president at Yale university before he became president of the national league.
and getting busted for drugs doesn't ruin the integrity of major league baseball.gambling does.if you let players and coaches make bets on games that they are involved in ,how would you know whether someone was on the take or not?remember when people you to take dives in boxing?how do you think fans who bet on that sport felt?
so no....i don't think rose got a raw deal....and he lied about it on top of that.he only admitted it when it was self serving.i do think that he will be allowed in the future
edit for toodeemo
he was president of national league in 1986 then became commisioner in 1989

No I do not believe that he has gotten a raw deal. He did something that was very illegal and is being punished for it.
At the same time, do I believe that he should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame? Yes I do, however only as a player and never as a manager. He should only be reinstated only in that regard. He should never ever be allowed to manage at any level or be part of the management level of any team.
I also believe that he should be allowed to travel to any ballpark that he wishes to travel to and if said team wants to introduce him to the crowd then they should be able to do so without any repercussions.

You do know that even though he doesn't have a plaque in the HOF, he is still represented there. His memorabilia is all over the place. So he is somewhat in the HOF.
Pete broke baseball's sacred rule on gambling, and hasn't been able to shut-up about it since.
A life-time ban was appropriate.

He broke the rules. He lied. No, he didn't cheat exactly. But he disgraced the game. He's more of a symbol to me than a legend anyway. He's proof that even the greatest are not above the rules. It might be nice to see him in there for some people, but as much as I want to see him in there myself, I can't justify it. He broke the rules in a big way. Even had he fessed up when he was caught, it wouldn't have been enough to save his chance at the hall.
