80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Many, upon asking themselves, answer this most important of questions with an inspirational statement or two that has applied to their own good and bad experiences in life. While many of these sayings like "be happy", "try your hardest", "never be discouraged" and so forth are ways to help make life more meaningful, they will still leave the question of life nagging indefinitely. As many words as one can say will never bring closure to the question, for the answer is not a logical conclusion that one can share with others.
The "answer" to the meaning of life can only be found within oneself, appearing through the experience of realizing the connection of the core of what makes your being with that of the universe. If you truly want to reach this understanding, you must be willing to disregard all that has come between the pure essence of your existence and the person you have become to function in the world. The door to this journey has been left closed by many more than have opened it, for the idea of making changes and seeing the world in new ways is frightening for those who have made themselves comfortable in their place. When these people are asked your question they will give you a quick and unsatisfying answer.
Try to isolate the feeling that led you to ask your question in the first place and discover where it came from. Only you can find your own way to the one answer.

live everyday to the fullest. Everybody says that but it is very true. You make your own meaning of life. You can live for money, religion, helping people, etc. Enjoy ur life, and don't waste a minute of it. it doesnt mean you have to be go go go you can just sit there and look our ur window and enjoy the real beauty of this earth. I have thought about this question a lot and i have come to the assumption that the meaning of life is what we make of it. whatever it is put 100% into everything that helps with success, happieness and all together a good life.

enjoy your day :]

well thats always an interesting question,i cant say there is a one ultimate purpose of life but i can tell you the basic direction of life which is basicly survival, but then there is the problem of free will in the human being.

if the purpose(direction)of life is survival than what are we
to say about suicide an action that controdicts this purpose?

the whole game changed when the homo sapian was finaly formed.meaning that humans unlike the rest of nature that just dose its thing.humans have a choice to do whatever thing they want.i choose to love unconditionaly as best as i can.

You define that, for your own life, for yourself - by what you spend it on. For me, it is simply living, being as aware as I can be, of everything, and especially the people I love, and everything in the universe. And hopefully, growing wiser, and using what wisdom I accumulate to enrich my own experience of life, and the experience of others - anonymously if that's appropriate. So, I see myself as embedded in the Earth and everything in it, the Universe - and my species. And therefor my life gains meaning through what I can do to improve the insight and experience of humanity at large. We are interconnected, and interdependant, with everything - that gives my own life meaning beyond religion, and I can see the evidence of it every day.

find the meaning of life while living. thats it really, unless you want to go political or religious, in which case it gets complicated.

To change the world to what you want it to be! Drifting endlessly working and living day by day is worthless and gives you nothing to remember when you are an old man.

It changes, sometimes daily. Today it may be to enjoy the company of your loved ones. Tomorrow it may be surviving concentration camp.

I believe its to see if we have it in us to become finer, stronger, purer and wiser in spirit....Deepak Chopra has some great things to say about this question, without standing on some hypocritical religious soapbox.
