What's a really good quote by a Chicano, for Chicanos? I'm doing an assignment on the future of Chicanos as an ethnicity and would like to start it off with something really powerful, but I can't find any good quotes to use for my introduction. Suggestions? Preferably something to do along the lines with the culture as a whole, maybe the civil rights movement, etc...

Edward James Olmos came to mind. Quotes from some of his characters would be good. Everything below this paragraph came from just the one web site linked below. If you dug, I think you could find some good stuff related to him. Zoot suit, Stand and Deliver or American Me probably have some usable quotes, if you can't find one of his that you like.

"we all have a choice"

"Sometimes you gotta do things that you don't really want to do. But you don't do them for money."

(This was apparently about his role in Miami Vice, but it still sounds deep.)

"If I can do it, so can you".

He will long be remembered for getting out in the thick of the L.A. Riots of 1992 with his broom: one calm, reasonable presence in the midst of chaos and gunfire.

Hurry up, before the Americans build the fence!

Just joking. I welcome all legal immigrants to America.

Maybe you can find a usable quote from César Chávez.
