First off, I think its helpful to know that im a 22 year old virgin, and over the years, I've learned how to make myself orgasm in less than 5 minutes but the other night, I let my boyfriend of 2 years go down on me for the first time, but when he did, it was more pain then pleasure. It got me to thinking, and I started to wonder if maybe theres something wrong with me due to a few incidents: first is when I went to get a culture exam a couple of months ago, just sticking a tiny cotton swab was extremely un-conformable; also, trying to stick even the lightest teenage tampons is mission impossible (even with the help of my best friend); when I went to get a pap-smear for the first time, my obgyn stuck a spectrum in me and I would imagine is more painful than childbirth (and I still couldnt use a tampon afterwards!) and whenever someone merely touches me near the vaginal area is pretty agonizing.

Is this abnormal?

Yes, this is abnormal. It should maybe be uncomfortable to have the vaginal exam but NOt that painful. Were you really tensed and that made it hurt?? I wondered that but with all the other sensitivities, I thought not.. Your GYN really needs to address this issue with you and exam you more. None of that should hurt that bad. Just be honest and tell him/her--they have heard it all, I promise you. See your Dr. and Good Luck.. I am sorry you are having so much trouble, I really hope you can get some answers soon.

When you orgasm are you only touching your clitoris? Becase it's much higher up. The other symptoms are not normal. Please see your regular doctor, or a gynecologist. Something is not right. Hopefully it's just some sort of infection, or something you need a special cream for. I just googled "shingles in vagina?", and YES it could be shingles, which is one of the most painful temporary illness. Get to a doctor. :)

Abnormal...in a way. Most women don't have it. Talk to your gynocolgist you may have a partially imperforated hymen and/or vulvar vestibulitis. If it is a partially imperforated hymen, it can be fixed with very very minor surgery. I do not know too much about vulvar vestibulitis but I have given you an article on it below.

Are you relaxed during all of that? Because being tense might be the reason. Other than that I've got no clue.

You shouldn't be feeling pain. You really need to cal your gyno and tell her what is going on. Good Luck!

This is not normal. Please talk to your doctor about this issue. It sounds like you might have vulvar vestibulitis or another form of a pain condition called vulvodynia. To learn more about vulvodynia please check out: http://www.vulvarhealth.org
