last night pc went all funny told to backup on safe mode with message to Microsoft ppage went all funny but readable cursor black square tried to do the things requested with no sucess so just shut down on restart page came up ok but click on a link and the page comes up postcard size any help appreciated on how to fix thankyou.

Umm... are you sure that you have not blown your graphic card, or changed any settings?
I would recommend saving all your documents (and only your documents) on to a portable hard drive, or a lot of Cd's
Then I recommend wiping your hard drive (but only if you have the relevant Cd's).
If it is your graphics card that has gone take it down to a PC shop and ask for advice, and take the PC if you can as this will help locate your problem.
In fact phone up your local PC store and ask if they will have a look at it for you. this will help you find the exact problem quicker and easier.
