I've never heard of a tip jar at any of these restaurants, those employees are not suppose to be tipped. Yes, I would only put money in the donation box, I agree with you.

McDonald's, Burger King, Dairy, Queen, etc, in fact ALL fast food restaurants must pay at least minimum wage. Therefore tips are not mandated or necessary. Service restaurants such as Red Lobster or TGI Fridays pay sometimes less than $3.00 an hour and the tips are needed to fill out the servers wage.

Tips at personal service restaurants usually run about 20% of the check total unless service is exceprional then anything over 20% is truly appreciated. A tip is SUPPOSED to be a gratuity for service but has become almost mandatory because of loopholes in wage laws.

The "collection boxes" for spare change and donations such as those at McDonald's for Ronald McDonald House are NOT to be used for the servers as tips. In fact if the money is being taken then this is the same as stealing from the charity itself and should be prosicuted.

I agree with you. Tip jars do not belong in fast food places. I manage a Subway and if you ever see one at a Subway call the 1-800 number on the napkin, they are not allowed to have tip jars!

If I have the money I put it in the donation box, if I don't oh well!

Yeah, I do. I hate to tip. Not because I'm cheap, but because I don't think people should get extra money for doing their job. I'm a math and physics tutor, and no one ever tips me for helping their kids do better in school... it's my job. Why should someone get tipped for placing an order for you? But Donations are cool.

being all my life from New York we know to tip our way,,
in and out..to accomplish in advance..please be advised
a tip is not only Gratitude...its entitlement..to those whom
preform the services..to show ..we respect their efforts,,
after all they get you out on time...and consider,,,
You need them they..just work like you...and were there ,,,
way before you ARRIVED...and at your service,,!!!
