Today about 20 minutes before i had to go to work i would go to the local thrift store in my small town that i live in. I had $9 in my pocket and i knew that i had to find a new phone for my bedroom so i set aside money for that. At this store they sell CDs for about $3 and i found 4 CDs that i was interested in. i knew that i could only buy one but i couldnt decide so i held onto them and walked around the store to look for my phone figureing that i would figure out which CD i wanted once i got back to the counter, and i would also look at how bad the scratches were. So i went to look for my phone and i found one, even though it was a little bigger than i planned on buying., and as i was leaving the back area of the thrift store i saw a little plushie and i knew i had to get it for my mom, so i put the cds in my pocket so they wouldnt get scratched from the phone i was carrying, then i payed and started walking out of the store. ..one problem...FORGOT THE CDS

So i forgot the CDs, and as i was walking out, i got out the door and the lady come sout and says "ma'am" right when she said that it triggered in my head what i had did and i was freaking out, i had so much on my mind that i forgot the cds in my pocket, i was so busy thinking about my mom because she jsut recently found out her boyfriend was cheating on her and i was thinking about my boyfriend...and i just forgot. I tried to explain that to her biut she didnt understand at all, and basically told me that she knw i was bad news, which is terotyping me. so whatever, so she called the cops and made a BIG scene about it in front of everyone and when the cop got there be believed me all the way, but his job entitled him to giiving me a ticket, so he gave me one and told me if i was really noy guilty i could do a court case, but i am only 16,...and i chose the case, but my mom belives me, my boyfriend does, and the cop doid...but what if the judge doesnt. what will i get?

YOUR story is simply not believable. It is reasonable for any person to KNOW what you did. Yoy didn't forget about the CD's...you knew you only had enought money for the phone and 1 cd. Then you went to get the gift for your mom. Logic says you wouldn't have put the cd's in your pocket..you would have put them back. CD's would be so bulky in your pocket that you didn't just forget they were there.....

For starters the judge is not going to believe you. They here cock and bull stories like this every day (not saying I don't believe you, that's reality)

That said, stealing a few cds is a very minor offense. Go to court, at some point you'll talk to the prosecutor (either he'll call your name before court begins or the judge will have talk to him). If you have no criminal record, the penalty will be very minor, a fine and community service or something of that nature.

Another approach would be to go to court, plead not guilty and exercise your right to a trial. It is unlikley the person from the store will appear as a witness and the charge will be dropped.

The BEST idea, however, would be to go talk to the person from the store. Be respectful, give her your sob story, and ask if she will not press charges in exchange for putting in some volunteer hours there (I assume they always need help). If she agrees, just expalin that when you go to court. The judge or prosecutor might want some verification however.

As a teen, I was charged for "shoplifting", (I was hanging out with the wrong friends who got me to do the crime), but back then they'd call my parents, I'd get a "court-date", & a fine of about $15.-20. bucks. (this was back in the 80's). anyways, we all make mistakes, & now you know not to put things in your pocket while shopping-& one thing I learned & did not do is not get caught stealing after you turn 18, the charges will be worse & you may go to jail.

you will get a slap on the wrist a small fine, and told not to EVER do it again.Oh, and if you don't have anything on your record at all, you could potentially ask to get it dismissed and removed.
At the most a fine, and community service.
Unless the judge is a complete and total asshole and wishes to make an example out of you.

Yeah...that's probably larceny. Get an attorney---it has to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt and there are several factors that could weigh in your favor, although you could possibly be convicted for a lesser charge.
