Contact the property manager - this is their responsibility. Their best bet would be to contact a pest control company to take a long term approach to resolving the problem through trapping or use of rodenticides, or preferably, to contact a Wildlife Control company to catch the animals, decontaminate the scent markings, and sealing off all current and potential entry points. Of course, it could be a rogue rat following you through an open door as well...

A mouse has virtually no bones and can get through the smallest of cracks or holes. You can purchase a glue pad which will catch him alive or go with a regular mouse trap with cheese on it. Any other way will be with some type of poison which is not good if you have small children or a pet in your apartment.

apartment walls, floors, and doors are not as well sealed as we'd like to believe. A mouse can squeeze into a whole as small as the crack under a door. When a mouse smells food, it squeezes thru to find it.
How to catch: regular traps can be ineffective, and hard to set. The best thing I've seen work are these glue boards. You put them along the baseboard, the mouse runs thru, and gets stuck to the board. You pick up the board, with mouse attached, and throw it in the garbage.
To keep mice out: seal all holes/cracks. The expanding foam at Home Depot is great for sealing holes.
Keep all food in sealed containers. Never leave food out. Get a lid for your trash cans (this one is very important).
GET A CAT. I know, you don't like cats. But I've had cats for years, and never had a mouse in my house. Have had them in my garage and yard, but never in the house.

They usually chew their way in. Look for holes-maybe in the molding around your door, dryer hose, attic. They can climb straight up walls so getting in is no problem. You have to put out poisen or glue traps. They will come in for a better climate but it is food that lures them usually. Look for his nasty little droppings and bait a trap with whatever he is eating or put out that poisen and you will get him. If you see one, you usually have many more and you need to act fast. They have lots n lots of babies. Be careful with mouse droppings because they carry disease and some pretty nasty diseases at that-Hunta virus etc. Just remember when you look at that cute little critter that he is actually very dirty and can be disease ridden and it is you and your home or him/her.

Can't say for sure how he got in, any really small hole in the wall or around plumbing pipes is a good place to look. Poison feed or a trap, the glue pads work well and you dont' have to touch it.

It could have gotten in anywhere. To get rid of it, I suggest a trap baited with peanut butter.

use a trap if you wanna kill it
if you dont want to kill it, bait it somehow, and catch it.....then you can release it outside somewhere...
check around all the bottom edges of the walls, where they meet the floor
check around your doorways and windows for small chewed out holes....
