They don't really teach makeup at cosmetology school so you don't have to worry about makeup. You won't use it except for a day course in where everything goes. Cosmetology schools don't employ anyone to teach makeup, they just use the hairdressers who don't have makeup artistry training themselves.

What you WILL have to have is your scissors, capes, hair coloring bowls, pins, clips, brushes, curling irons, and blow dryers. The schools include that in what they call the "kit" fee for your tuition. You'll see a seperate line on your tuition bill for this.

Cosmetology schools license skincare professionals, nail care professionals, and haircare professionals NOT makeup professionals. If you are wanting makeup training you need to go to a makeup artistry school not a cosmetology school. If you want to do hair then you want a cosmetology school.

Hi Bri,
It varies from school to school. One school makes their tuition look cheaper by having you buy the kit later on. Others include the cost of your kits in the initial tuition. You pay for it yourself, either way. One way to reduce costs is to do some after-hours janitorial work for the school. Most of the work is complete in 30 to 45 minutes -it saves you a lot. Have fun with it.

You will need to pay the The beauty school for the package of supplies. Some schools give you a payment option . Pay in 2 payments or at one time

It depends on where you go. I know at Aveda schools, they require you to purchase their kit which includes most of the tools needed for hair, but you can also buy your own, higher quality. In their system, hair and nails are sort of in a communal area, and they pay for them. They just sort of have a makeup display and you use whatever you need on a client by client basis.

In most states when you go to school for cosmetology it includes hair, skin, and nails. I looked into going to several different states, and none of them included makeup in the kits, but they supplied it in class when you needed it.
