drape fine mesh plastic screening over the plant. you can buy it at most garden centers.
if you've only one plant, you could make a wire mesh type cage around it.
live traps work well at catching them, but there's always another...and another...and...you know.

Well, you're probably not hallucinating, if that's the concern. I once saw a squirrel running across a college campus with an entire bagel in its front paws.

If you want to stop the chipmunk from stealing more goodies, here is an odd suggestion that actually works: eat a hamburger, drink a glass of water. An hour or two later go and pee around your garden. After a day it will fade so that you can't smell it any more, but chipmunks and deer and rabbits will still avoid the predator scent.

Aaww, that would have been cute!
But cute as they are, those little critters can do a lot of damage. Mousetraps work just as well for chipmunks as they do for mice. Bait it with a sunflower seed or some peanut butter.
Or live-trap the little rodent and relocate it out in the country.

There's a new rodent trap on the market called The Better Trap. It's gray plastic and highly effective. Load it with sunflower seeds and leave it beside your tomatoes, and your problem will take care of itself.

You could go for a pellet or bb gun or I'm pretty sure I've heard that planting marigolds in your garden will keep things like birds, rabbits, and other small rodents out of a garden.

look online for chipmunk repellers (like little things that you can do to keep them away). Unless you want them to keep snatching your tomatos.. he he.

Get some moth balls and put them around the plants; that will discourage the sneaky little guys!
