I'm looking for a pleco to add into my Discus tank. It is a 55 gallon, with a fluval 305 canister. I want one that stays small, under 6 inches would be fine, compatible with discus, and eats a good amount of algae. The tank is in front of a window, so algae is going to be a big problem soon. Also, I have some live plants, so something that will stay away from them for the most part.

I know I read about one pleco that doesn't eat live plants, but I don't know what it is or anything else about it.

I'm willing to spend around $65 for one, but not much higher.

otocinclus might work just like 3-4 of them or L183 plecos, they are my favorite.

just know that any algea eater CAN eat the slime coats off any fish but some don't. it's up to the individual fish.

How about a female bristlenose plec? Maybe something a little fancier... gold nugget plec? Queen arabesque? Peckoltia? Not too many are going to live off of that algae though... I'd say if you are putting it in front of a window, you will end up scrubbing most of it off even with a plec in there.

You can get a zebra pleco which has a unique Black/White Stripes and you can get a baby 2 to 3inchs one for around $3-7 or little moreUSD and grows only up to around 6 inches or little more.

Here is a site with all the plecos available, and I doubt that you have to spent $65 for one
