I'd be the kind of person that tells the friend they have to go cook porkchops for someone and lets them dig the hole by themselves.

If digging the hole for a legit reason such as defense, harm of a family member, or a home invasion.. I will be the one to break the ground..
but if for something as meaningless as a robbery or a drive by just for the hell of it... I will burn his house down..

I defend even without a good cause, I would dig that hole.

depends on the crime... most of the time I'll be there digging the hole with them and figuring out how to get out of the crime too
