I am trying to decide which color of exhaust wrap to get: tan or black. Intuitively, it would seem that black would be the better color since it holds more heat, but does it really matter? I would be wrapping the exhaust manifold and downtube of my car.

You said downtube, That leads me to believe you have a turbo. If thats the case are you trying to deflect heat off of something. If that is indeed the case you need to have an aluminum deflector made and should have stainless pipe you don't want to cover. If this is not the case then chances are you have a header made from steel and wraps can severly shorten the life of a header due to rust, wraps encourage rust. In that case buy a ceramic coated header, it's cheaper in the long run and hell no color doesn't matter.

IF how your car looks matters then it matters. Black, always Black its a classic color. The heat will be carried by the gas.The pipes might stay hot a little longer when you shut down but who cares it looks cool. Unless you're gonna touch them hot then ur not so cool. Have you ever seen Tan Headers?

Shouldn't matter on the color. It is the material that will make the difference. The color is for cosmetics. good luck.

It doesn't really matter since that stuff will all fall off in a few months anyway.
