About 2 weeks ago, I got a new betta (his name is Muu Beta). When I got him from the petstore, he, along with all of the other bettas there had some sort of disease that was perhaps fin rot. I treated that and he looks even better than when I got him. About 25 min ago, I heard a splash in his tank. Aparently, he tried to hop out, but there is a glass covering that is about one inch above the water, so I am guessing he hit his little head. (The glass has a large hole in it to give him air). He then began to dart all around the upper left corner of the tank as if he had lost his marbles. About 15 min ago, he stopped his madness. Is he ok? Is he just playing?

Other Info: 2 gallon tank, filter, flourescent light (on in daytime, off at night), hikari pellets, bloodworms, aquarisol preventative medicine weekly, aquarium salt (put in at every water change), ph is exactly 7.0, water conditioners, temp always between 78 and 82 degrees, 60% water change twice weekly, an occasional green pea.

Muu Beta has gravel which was washed off and a mini rock house thing for him to hide in.

He did the same jump and dart routine this morning. He looks scared of something to me. When my cat was on an antibiotic that caused temporary blindness, he darted around his playpen like he had gone mad. Though Tommy didn't bump into anything, we found out he was freaked out because of temporarily loosing his sight. (He's 100% fine now once we took him off the medicine) Anyway, I'm worried about the fish because it seems he's scared of something too. Yesterday, I wondered if he went nuts because he hurt his head and that is how they deal with pain, but today... I looked at his eyes and they look slightly puffier than my sister's bettas eyes. Not much, just a little. Could that just be his face? Or could there be a problem? As for other fears, no one hits the glass or anything. On most days, his tank is only approached 3 times a day to check temperature or to feed him. Am I just being a worrywart? This is my first betta.

Oh yeah! And the other betta, (that my sister named Cabby which stands for Cinnamonroll (I forgot what the A stands for) Bert Beta) stays in a different room. The cat is afraid of the fish tank for some reason, so he wont even come within 2 feet of it, so if he is afraid of something, it isn't the cat...

It's absolutely normal that a betta jumps, that's the reason they usually tell you to get a tank with a hood that he can't jump out of it
He's gonna be absolutely fine
I have heard on here already that some of the bettas have actually jumped out of there tank and they were still fine and servived

Hope that helps
Good luck

He ok its normal and its natural for a betta jump but if you dont want him to get hurt you should try lowering the water level and have a 2inch air spaceing from the water level to the glass cover.

It is strange a Betta jumps, any way I think you got him and put back in the water, and don´t worry Bettas are always angry, try just put a mirror in front of him and you´ll see how mad he gets. The food and the conditions of the tank also are ok, I say just take away the green pea as they are not vegetarian. They need the protein of blood worms that i what they love.

He was just having a "beta-moment". lol. I found out that bettas are used to very little amounts of water and oxygen, they live in puddles for as long as it takes mother nature to rain. Thet are quite hardy. Mine jumped and was alive for I wanna say 7 minutes before I came back into the room. He was safe and did well, except for the carpet fibers, he looked alright.

you really don't need salt in his tank. do you by any chance have any rocks at the bottom? or little figurine type things in there?

sometimes there can be pesticides on the figurines and rocks. i always wash my fish stuff in very hot water to kill any bacteria that could be on any thing, including a tank. i have a 35 gallon aquarium with four goldfish that have lived to see their 3rd birthday! amazing.

i also suggest that you go to your local pet store and as about a replacement.

good luck and have fun!
