Drama? Summer Theaters? What do you think?

There are a ton of great programs out there, but most of them have already started. If you're looking for one to attend this summer, get cracking!

For next summer, it's never too early to start investigating. Some camps give a discount for signing up by a certain month and I'm sure your parents would appreciate the fact that you gave them plenty of notice :-) It shows responsibility!

Good luck!

I did 6 seasons( 1985 to 1990) of Summer Theatre at a small, private, Liberal Arts College in Southern California and it was the best training I ever had. Five shows, outdoors, on a thrust stage,in repertory, each season (Shakespeare, Gilbert and Sullivan, Classic Broadway, classic/contemporary comedy and/or drama.). Talk about eclectic! What I was not cast in, I crewed, which gave me an even broader education.

For example, I learned why it is important for an actor to find his light from both ends of the beam, why you should always be nice to your costumer, that clearing the stage of the collected dew between acts, in full view of the audience, can be raised to an art form, and to know how to pause for helicopters.

Ah me, those were the days.

Hi,

Similar questions come up often here on answers.yahoo.com. If you do a search here on answers you will see other answers to this question. I answer a lot of questions about getting started in acting and so instead of writing the same or similar answers all the time, I have created a 28-page ebooklet that answers pretty thoroughly your question.
Just go to http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/acs-blog.html , sign in on the right side of the page and you can download it for free. It's called: What It Takes To Become An Actor.

Something you might find interesting is a page on my website that has to do with an intensive summer program that I took a couple of years ago in NY, that was really good. http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/acting_classes.html . But like Marianne says, you have to think about that a little earlier for the summer.

Hope this helps!

this isn't much of a question. what do you really want to know? I think summer theater is the best way to learn to act.

Fill me in on yourself and what you want to accomplish, maybe I can help. I am a retired actor who advises young actors for free at kencosp@aol.com

I think its a great idea. But most of them are over or at least finished enrolling. You can look into it for next summer though. But i would try to find one that you can still go to this summer.
