At this point, you have to be against them, and speak out against their policies, to be patriotic.

Cue "My Country Tis of Thee."

No. And it really irritates that there are those that would have us believe that it is unpatriotic to speak out against Bush/Cheney and their policy in Iraq (or any presidential team and their policies). Last time, I checked the party line was that we are bringing democracy to Iraq. And freedom of speech is a big tenet in democracy. It dishonors every American soldier to say speaking out against the President and his policies is unpatriotic. For centuries, American soldiers have fought to preserve our right to freedom of speech. Respect that and honor that and you are a true patriot no matter where your political viewpoints fall - left, right or center.

No, you do not have to be for Bush or Cheney to be patriotic. You can love your country and do what you can for it without liking the president. Helping out with our men and women in uniform is a great way to be patriotic!!!!

1st of all, I trust you knew you were going to receive all these varied hot-headed answers when you proposed this question. 2nd - I, too, have served my country and mine just happened to have been for free. I volunteered in the Civil Air Patrol back in the late 70's. I was also married to a Viet Nam Vet who happened to have been an Army Photojournalist filming all that dddddd heartache in Viet Nam and saw the pain and bloodshed at the Saigon exit. 3rd - Many of my Daddy's and Mother's family and extended family fought for "freedoms in general" all the way back to the Seven Years War hundreds of years ago. 4th - His brother lost over half his battalion (as a Lt.) at Normandy and D-Day, There were 5 brothers-in-law that fortunately made it home whole, plus we had numerous other Male relatives, Uncles, cousins & numerous cousins who served in the Civil War, a cousin who was a teacher who wrote a song for the Civil War, and served in the Spanish American War, I and II WW's, Korea and the blip in Viet Nam. We also had my mother's 1st cousin Gloria who was actually one of the Supervisors of the "ratchet girls" during WWII making provisions and planes for the fliers overseas. So yes, while I'm extremely loyal to our troops, have actually sent them a huge care package and donations from time to time, In no way, shape or form do I support the current White House team! They are the most crooked, diabolical, backstabbing, money-grubbing, vote snatching twerps I have ever seen! I did not vote either time for Bush. As a further note, I actually received a personal thank you note for a "Correspondent Letter To The Editor Letter" I wrote back in 1991 from Former Pres. George H. W. Bush thanking me for my sentiment regarding the Viet Nam Vets. And yes, it actually is on White House official stationery. It is securely stored. I vote for whoever's the best qualified at the time and right now my voting finger is leaning towards Rudy G. Simply because he cleaned up the crime rate so well and handled himself so aptly during the 9/11 crisis.

Americans get divided when it comes to politics sometimes I feel that we focus in to "Our Parties" or a candidate far to much when we should pay attention to the issues that will keep America a safe place for all to live.

No, I don't think you have to be a loyal Bushies. I know many people that don't like Bush. And most times I call people unpatriotic is when they slam, bash, and accuse Bush of everything under the sun from "War for Oil" to being responsible for 9/11. That is unpatriotic. That is belittling our troops efforts, and taking the blame away from our enemies.

That is what they had people believing esp at the start of the Iraq war.

To really be patriotic is to question your government when necessary.
