OK i hate using labels like "emo" cuz i dont wanna sound like a poseur but without knowing what i look like, theres no other way to say it. i typically wear skinny jeans, converse low tops, band t's or black tank tops and lots of happy colored bracelets/ and about 3 necklaces. my hair is diagnol sideswept bangs, i like to wear thick headbands too. i wear dark eyeliner and dark eyeshadow under my eyes. in other words, im totally emo.

what my problem is though, is that my mom hates how i look, hates my friends (who are also emo),my poetry, music&would kill me if she knew that i cut myself. shes trying2 convert my style, making me wear skirts instead of jeans, which are shin length and black, and making me not wear converse. my question is: i still want to express myself by looking emo on the outside, so do skirts (even though they are longer) look emo if i still wear it with bracelets, the bangs, etc.? also, shes making me wear flip flops instead.

i know i will still be emo on the inside, but will i still look emo? also, any suggestions how to make myself look more emo with what i am forced to wear?

For all of u who are saying cutting is a problem, i no it is and i am working through it i dont do it as often as i used to. NO I AM NOT CUTTING CUZ I THINK THAT MAKES ME EMO!!!! i cut bc it eases the pain. i write poetry as a release, but sometimes i have to cut. cutting releases beta endorphins into your body which dull your physical and emotional pain and make u relax that is why i cut. it helps me but i kno i may cut too deep that is y i try to stop. please this is a question about fashion, not about my habits please help me with my question thank u.

who cares. wear what you want. stop worrying about stereotypes and cutting yourself just to fit in.

If you can buy some floor length black peasant skirts adorn them with safety pins, chains, patches anything you like. Since they are floor length they will cover those hideous flip flops. If the floor length skirts are out of the question then cut all your shin length skirts to the top of the knee and adorn them with whatever, wear them with fishnets or leggings if your mom will go for it get some pumps so you can wear the fishnets.

Being in the emo world way before it was a fad I know that it's all about being yourself and having a bit of your own style, dress the skirts up so the real you shows through.

Dress up your skirts... put safety pins, chains, you can even sow plaid patches on them, also, if they are shin length, you can put fish net hose with them, I like they way it looks. Flip flops? I don't know what to do about them.
Cutting is so not good for you, if I was your mommy I would be mad too.

how old are u? cuz i mean she can't *make* you wear anything. cut the skirts above the knee to make them more emo looking and jagged, plus cooler :)

oh and btw, cutting is not part of a fad or something to do cuz your friends do or something to feel poetic and deep...it is something mentally disturbed people do as a cry for help...keep that in mind
