1. self determination not fully extended, ho chi minh of vietnam approached wilson asking for freedom from the french, wilsons personal prejudices caused him to send ho chi minh away. ho chi minh would later lead the rebel forces in vietnam.
2. treaty of versailles was NOT passed by the US Senate because of wilsons unwillingness to compromise. therefore the league was weak and ineffective. many restrictions and rules went ignored because there was nothing to do as punishment or retribution.
3. europe was left in a state of economic turmoil, especially Germany and Austria-Hungary. would help Hitler rise to power later on. the chain of debt caused by the war helped create a superficial prosperity in the US (roaring 20s, black tuesday, great depression).

I'd say that if ever there was a topic in history that was most written about I would have to pick this one.
The political and social costs of the Treaty of Versailles cannot be calculated here. There are too many. Take the entire Middle East for one: all the new countries created (Iran, Iraq, Jordan, etc.) The international political history of the 20th century can almost always be traced back to the Treaty of Versailles.
If you want to read more on this, I would suggest a great book, I would say THE book on the subject, by Margaret MacMillan.
The title is PARIS: 1919, Six Months that Changed the World.

50 thousand men a day for 5 years died. along with most of the monarchies of Europe and the Austria-Hungarian Empire what traces of the Turkish Ottoman empire were left. destabilized the British Empire, redrew the lines of Europe. And much more.
Treaty of Versailles, was mostly mistakes blaming Germany for the whole war and treating them as a defeated foe rather than unbroken enemy looking for peace. too many things to list here. many book s on the post WW! preWW2 period.

By giving Germany the entire blame for the war, it set the stage for the rise of Hitler and his Nazi party.

They never should have imposed reparations on Germany. It caused the economic climate that led to the rise of the nazis.
