My suggestion:
A combination of the 2. If you lower the front suspension 5" just using the coil springs, this truck is going to bottom out it's suspension over every single bump. I'm not sure on the maximum drop you can get with aftermarket spindles but go that direction first then any additional drop you want can be handled by the springs.
A front-end alignment wouldn't be any problem with this type of suspension lowering....

I'm sure you can find a kit to drop the front end. It will take the dropped spindles and shorter springs, different shocks will most likely be needed. That is why you need a kit.
Then you'll need the rear end dropped too. Maybe go with air-ride.

You can just buy coil springs. Although I would recommend buying new shocks too. That might make your suspension handle better because the shocks for your ranger are adjusted to a certain height and if you drop it five inches the shocks could bottom out so your ride will be extremely hard. If you buy new springs and shocks you'll be able to lower it the five inches that you want without bottoming the suspension out due to the fact that the shocks are also shorter. Check out www.eibach.com, www.koni.com for details and model applications. If you can't find any for your truck check out the webpages for H&R Springs and Gabriel Shocks, etc. I don't know the URL's but you can probably google them. Also check Autozone.com.... they have a new performance catalogue available.

Drop spindles is the right way. Changing the springs can change the alignment beyond adjustment. Springs will also let it ride on the limiters giving you a no suspension ride.

A lower front-end on that truck would look very classy. What you may want to do is to cut your factory springs in half, then take the shocks out and replace the shocks with a short piece of lead pipe from Lowe's.

Buy drop spindles best way to do it that way you do not have to play with the front end to get it aligned.

The best way would be to take a bottle jack & put it under the bumper. Jack it up 5" & then kick the jack out. It will drop at least 5" & you will have saved a bundle of money.

pushing it off a curb would be a good way to drop the front.
umm yeah you want more than just springs to fix the alignment issue.
I mean why ruin a perfectly good looking truck apperence wise to make it handle even worse too?
