I've been using chopsticks since I was a young girl. I've never used pick up sticks, nor do I use the bamboo ones unless I have to. I have a lovely 6-pair boxed set of lacquered chopsticks that I take with me whenever dining at an Asian restaurant.

Yes, the mother of a friend taught me when I was about 20 (around 1965), not allowing me to use a fork and spoon when at her place. and I have been using them at home and in Asia since having worked in Southeast Asia as a TV cameraman and marrying a Cambodian wife.
As for the last, I never heard of the place.

Fairly simple, really.
It's like using a pair of scissors, except your fingers are the "bolts" that hold them together.
