and then eventually levels out. This is for an algebra 2 math project. I need to find a real life situation that graphs out as a square root function. Ideas please!

The answers before:
explosions
radioactive decay
fish in a pond
are not square roots. They are exponential.

The number of miles of interstate highways in a state is approximately proportional to the square root of the area of the state.

Square roots do not "level out" either. The function is always increasing, albeit not as fast as linear.

I remember this problem from my 9th grade chemistry class. The best example I can give you the best example I learned....fish in a pond. You put 2 fish in a pond with a perfect environment for breeding fish. So the fish grow and multiply. However, at a certain level, the pond becomes so crowded that the fish have to compete for food and space and the number of fish that actually survive start to level out because the pond just can't hold anymore fish. So the number of fish level out to the maximum number the pond can hold.

That's the best example I can give you. Good luck!
