sunday night my four month old had a slight low grade fever, we gave her tylenol and went to sleep for the night. that morning her fever spiked to 102.we brought her into the dr, he took a cbc and all was normal. her fever is now gone, since tuesday she will not eat. she takes a few sucks on the bottle then starts to scream. now when she sees the bottle, she starts to scream.

the dr says that she isnt dehydrated, but she is just getting enough to eat, she is at the margine basically.

the dr says its a virus, but i was wondering if it could be someting else?

anyone have this happen to them? or know what it may be?

shes been bottle feeding with enfamil lipil with iron for over 2 months and has never had any problems with it.

she doent mind the sucking motion, because she can withstand sucking on her pacifier, and the dr checked her ears and they were fine.

Did he check her ears? My daughter used to get ear infections that caused her to have fevers and not eat. It hurt her ears to suck the bottle. We had a bad doctor at first that didn't even check her ears.

There is a possibility that it could be she is having a tooth come in. A lot of times, they can have a fever beforehand, and then not want to eat. That is what my 2nd child did. Our first didn't have any teeth until she was a little older, but the 2nd one had her first tooth around 4 months of age, and she did this same thing.
One thing you can do is look in her mouth (Yes I know, not the easiest thing to do with an infant!) and see if you notice any swelling on the front of her gums. If you see any swelling, or can feel something about to break through the gums, rub some baby abesol on it, and you might be able to get her to drink a little more. Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Babies are very honest, as you know, she knows if she sucks that nipple, it's gonna hurt. I'd follow the advice about the ears, but also think about her digesting the formula, is she peeing and pooping right? Also she might not like it if it causes her gas that she can't release. Sounds like you need a second opinion from a different doc or nurse. (Nurses, male or female seem to be more into this kind of stuff, doctors mostly concentrate on really serious stuff) Since your baby's weight and health is fine, then the doc thinks all is ok. I'm no expert, but I raised my daughter alone, and now she has two little girls, so we go through this daily. Good luck. Ron

Definitely get a hold of a different doctor. You could try calling the hospital and asking for the pediatrics nurses station. Generally they're on call all night and will answer any question the best they can. They might be able to give you more insight to the problem. Try something besides formula, juice diluted with some water or maybe some water with just enough sugar in it to flavor.

I would definitely take her back to the doctor. She may have an ear infection which could be causing her pain when she sucks. I'm surprised the doctor didn't think it mattered that a four month old was hardly eating at all. I would consider getting a new doctor...

If she isn't eating, take her back in so they can check her weight. Even losing a couple of pounds is significant at this age. I agree with the others about possibly being her ears, I'd hope the doctor checked them..but wouldn't be surprised if he didn't. Or maybe something wasn't showing up just yet when the baby was checked. When in doubt, take the baby in. Peace of mind is priceless when it comes to our babies. Good luck.

You better get a second opinion. Maybe, the baby's just so sleepy because that's how babies are. But why not give her a Mother's Milk. It is the safest, cleanest and the best milk for infants. Besides, the bonding between Mother and Child will be great!
Try to introduce Mother's Milk.
GOD BLESS THE CHILD.

She may have gotten a throat infection after the initial virus, or perhaps an ear infection. Make sure she is still wetting her diapers at least once a day. But i would take her in to make sure nothing else is wrong.

It still might be the formula, call the Dr. again. My son used the same diapers since birth, then all of a sudden he was allergic to them, go figure.

Maybe gas.or she constipated? if she has gas bubbles or reflux the formula could be causing her stomach to cramp and maybe that is why she cries when she sees the bottel.there is an over the counter gas meds for infants. also sometimes high iron can cause constipation,my doc recomended colace for babies when mine bound upit is also otc.good luck.
