These are some really helpful answers, thanks to all. just to clarify though, I'm no fan of Hitlers either, by any means, but it just baffles me how a whole country participated in these horrible things and I would love to know what the bajesus Hitler was thinking. Once again thanks.

The single best book about Nazi Germany is The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shirer. The best book about the diplomatic history and events leading upto and causing WWII is Donald Cameron Watt's How War Came.

These are the most insightfull books about that terrible period of human history.

Best of luck

Triumph of the Will is one of the best movies about Nazi Germany. you might also try The Occult Reich along with Albert Speers books.

Eva Braun also has a book written about her and there are some fascinating insights which the author introduces.

Don't forget to read Anne Frank's Diary as this will also give you an idea as to what was going on in Germany at the time.

Mien Kampf was a book written by Hitler himself, while he was in prison for staging the Beer Hall Putsch, before his presidency/tyranny. I gives insight to his beliefs that he carried on into WWII. I'm no fan of Hitler by any means, but this book has given a better look at why he did the things he did.

If you have a libary in your town go to it and ask if they have any books on it=the one i found most interesting was
The World at War,it covered all aspects of the war's? the cost in money and the cost in lives, and most of all the rise
and fall of Nazi Germany=Hitler and his Henchmen.
If that is not for you then go on line and go in to wikipedia, and type in nazi germany,i'm sure they will shed
some light on what you are looking for.

Mein Kampf-- the "autobiography" Hitler dictated to Adolf Hess and others while in prison. It's a must if you are going to understand the nazi and third reich regime.

The Pianist was an awesome book and movie, though it was dealing with Germany and Poland primarily.
