My husband is in construction he was laid off for 8 months, finally when we just spent the last dollar in our savings he started working again, it has been out of the hall. Like work at one place for a week then go to a dif company for a few days etc... He was hired at a small co who said they needed help until the winter. Well apparently winter came early this year b/c he is laid off once again!!! The co lost their @$$ on a job someone made big boo boo (no not my husband he wasn't even on that project). Anyway because of the big loss they had to let go of some people, well since he just started their 3/4 weeks ago, he was the first to be let go. Hopefully he can go to the hall tomorrow and find something, but I am just sick about the situation! We have 2 small children that need to eat/ have clothing etc, not to mention a house I would like to keep!!! I work full time but i'm not bringing home mega bucks by any means. Thanks for reading I needed to get that out b4 I had a breakdown.

I hope it's not going to continue to be like this! He has been in this field for 5 years, generally he is laid off (or works only a few days a week during the winter). However we have time to prepare and know when it is coming, not the past 2 times though, the lay off's just hit like a ton of bricks.

He is a laborer, does mostly road work, concrete, asphanlt, storm sewers etc.

He started his own co when he was laid off for the 8 months. He went out and got 20 shirts and 15 hats made (still don't get that one), bid on one job, that he didn't get and that is about as far as it went.

It was always like that for my family. For 18 years we lived the feast or famine lifestyle. It was terrible never knowing what tomorrow would bring. I finally left after all that time and almost 3 years later he still lives like that while I know my bills can be paid this month which is a very nice feeling.

Construction is booming in Georgia. Construction is booming in a lot of cities and states. Not bringing in an income is not good. It seems you have married a bum just waiting to happen. If he won't work (and it doesn't have to be union) you need to take care of you and the kids. He could start his own company or pick up work with flyers and stuff. You didn't say what he did in construction. I just had to hire a plumber today because of a water leak and it just happens that I got a flyer from him yesterday saying he did this kind of work. If he is licensed, he can find work. If he won't or doesn't work, find a place you can afford and take the kids. Then when he works, you can get child support.

We all have our down moments and venting them out is a good way of making ourselves feel better. I hope this went well for you. Try to focus, too on the better things and appreciate them more like your husband having intermittent jobs, and you working full time; and you having a house you like to keep and 2 small healthy children, etc.

Suggest that your husband take some classes to get into a line of work using his skills but with a bit more security. You need to not get to this edge, and the only way to do it in this type of seasonal work is to hedge your bet.

this is awfull. I don't have much advice to offer. do you have any reason to think that his career will always be like this? If so, you may have no choice but to down-size your home (sell and move to smaller, cheaper) and other expenses. but if you make this sacrifice, you might still be able to work out a good way of running your lives. good luck
