Greetings,

Hands down....Peart.

It's too bad you didn't mention Buddy Rich. :) He was the king. No one else like him since.

Check it out.....

Right off the bat we can remove Alex, even though I like his style, you really can't put him in the class of the other 3. Then I'd say let's get rid of Stewart, though he gets honerable mention for being quite an accomplished percussionist. So we are left with Neil & Phil. Tough choice, though Neil is more the power drummer and a perfect example of his technical abilities would be the song "the Weapon" to which a drum machine was programmed & then the pattern was played backwards & Neil had to learn the song that way. Pretty tough job, but he did it, but I'll have to say as an overall drummer, as close a call as it is, my vote goes to Phil. Any early work with Genesis ala LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY to work with BRAND X and then of course his solo material. Honorable mention to Terry Bozzio, Bill Bruford & Mike Portnoy.

Well from your selection it's Peart. I can't stand Rush but only because of Geddy Lee. The rest of the band members are amazing. What about Danny Carey of Tool. He should have been on your list. It's tough I know.

As far as "drumming" goes, Peart. VH and Collins are purely lame. Copeland is very talented.
Peart is also Rush's lyricist.

Alex Van Halen just barely makes the cut, but "Stewart Copeland" had his unique Raggae style, and of course Phil Collins had a style that was very tempo, but as far as precision and fills and timing..no one beat Neil Peart of "Rush"..I could sit through a concert just listening to him! and don't forget "Peart" disigned the album covers, themes and concept of each "Rush" album!

The better drummer: Carl Plamer - then Neil Peart.

Peart, although props to Collins for some of that early Genesis stuff.

What about John Bohnam?
I'd be willing to say he's better than Peart hands down
(though i'm sure alot of you will disagree)

Stewart Copeland. Just saw him live last night, and he's incredibly talented. One of the few drummers to use a pie cutter. lol
