My brother lives in Sacramento and Im going to visit him in a few weeks. I want to bring my cigarettes there (I am 18) but I dont want to bring them and not be able to smoke at all. I know that I cant smoke on a beach, in a restuarant or within 20 feet of a building but can i smoke on his patio or just walking down the street?

Yes, Serena. Here in California we have eliminated all indoor smoking, but do allow outdoor smoking. You will see signs on some doors requesting you not smoke within 50 feet of doors. The reason for that is often the cloud of smoke near a door is pulled into the building when the doors are opened, thus negating the purpose of sending smokers outside.

By the way, I appreciate you, and all smokers for cooperating with the smoking ban. It makes a big difference for me. I used to have a lot of nausea around smoke, so it made work hard for me.

You really should quit. My dad smoked, worked his butt off raising us kids, seven of us, and never had anything for himself, at 57, just three years away from retiring and finally doing what he wanted to do for a change he was DEAD. It was no fun sitting there watching my hero gasping for his last breath of air. Quit those things now, if not for yourself, then for the kids you are yet to have, and for the grandchildren you might have that would like to meet you.
