My husband posed this question to me, joking. But it got me to thinking. . . Does anyone think that Atlanta might talk to him, for a "just in case" sort of thing?

barometer: I see what you are saying, but I don't think that Daunte holds much hope of playing anywhere - he is unproven after the knee thing. I would think his asking price would be a fire sale so he could get onto a team and prove himself again worthy of the multi-million dollar contracts. I could be wrong, but that is why I posted what I did. I do have a clue about the salary caps and what is at stake with releasing Vick. Besides - I don't know if they will "release" Vick - they could do to him what the Eagles did to TO his final year there. It would be cheaper, and they can do that. . .

I think the Vick indictment has definitely put Atlanta into the mix for Culpepper's services. Forget any salary hits, Arthur Blank has as deep of pockets as any owner in pro sports, he cares more about image than most owners as well. Therefore, if Duante is even 75% of his old self, and if more negative facts come to light regarding Michael Vick, then Blank will dump Vick, and Culpepper will be in Red & Black in a hurry.
By the way, Arthur Blank founded Home Depot and undoubtedly still holds stock or stock options in HD. For any dog-loving NFL fans out there such as myself, hit Mr. Blank in his wallet: Boycott Home Depot & shop at Lowe's, Ace, or anywhere else until Vick is released from the Falcons.
I hope Comissioner Goodell slaps a huge fine and suspension on Vick, maybe that will slap some maturity/reality into his world. Vick's alleged actions nauseate me more than Pacman, Tank Johnson, and Chris Henry's combined!

Atlanta would have to drop Vick in order to pick up Culpepper and they aren't prepared to do that yet - or they would have already done it. Amazingly, 50% of the Atlanta fans don't think Vick should be dropped and if they did drop him they would be throwing away a $30m signing bonus and some other team would snap him up in an instant. He has no trade value right now so they have to sit tight.
Even if they dropped Vick, they would have to amortize his $30m bonus over the next two years and most likely still wouldn't have cap space to pay Culpepper much.
So I think Atlanta is screwed, blued and tatooed right now.

It's very possible. And also, I wouldn't mind him going to Atlanta because I'll get to see him play his old team the Vikings for his first game of the season.
Daunte + Atlanta
Really this isn't a bad thing. I mean, Schaub's gone, Vicks obviously dead... what else do they have?

He could be, but I heard on ESPN today that Vick will probably get to play in the 2007 season.

If Authur Blenk is half the man I think he is, Culpepper is already on Peach Street.

i hadn't thought of this before, but now that you bring it up, it seems very possible. besides, culpepper's mobility (at full health) suits atlanta's style of play.
