The first mistake was to hire one!!!!! You and your soon to be ex need to get rid of both of these attorneys. They have no reason to settle your issues quickly ...(Do you know one poor attorney???hmmmm???).... and you two will pay for it with a considerable amount of your estate, and time. Go back to square one and agree to divorce. Agree how your estate should be divided. Hire what is called a mediating attorney. Find one in the Yellow Pages. Your final cost can be as little as $75. But it for sure won't be the $400/hr you each are looking at now.... Get yourself a set of divorce papers from any office supply place or from the internet... so that you know what they look like, and what they ask of you... (And in the end, be sure that you each redo your wills before you sign off on your final papers... Don't for one moment believe that you can continue to hold things/property/accounts/investments jointly after divorce -- in some states beneficiary status and joint tenancy fail with divorce, and should one of you die, you are in court again, against a terrible situation....trust me)
Decide who should get what and for how long if there are children involved. Use the guy to answer your questions, not settle arguments. If you continue the path you are on, easily you each could loose 10-20% of your estate(s)...... $6,00-12000 each.
The only way to divorce is civilly, and fairly without greed or resentment even if one of you betrayed the other.... tuff? sure, but do it or loose tons of buckos.... Hold your pity party later...

I would hire a new first. Ask around. Get referrals, You want someone that is competent and his a good rapport with the judges. Also, you want someone that is good.
I would then tell the old attorney, that you had met with your attorney, and, had the opportunity to get to know him, and, that you have retained him to handle the remainder of your divorce.
If you are concerned about his feelings, you can make it sound like he is a friend of your sisters, or something. If you want to be more direct, though, you could tell him exactly what you wrote here. His communication style is difficult for you to understand, and, that you feel your needs could be better met by a different attorney.
Good luck!

All you have to do is request that your attorney withdraw from your case. Not many lawyers will take on the case until the other one has withdrawn. Just remember, if you continue to switch attorneys-you are spending more money (you still have to pay the first one) you have to pay the second one a retainer, and the judge eventually thinks you are switching attorneys simply because you don't like what they are telling you. Good luck.

Your first step is to go get yourself a consult with a new attorney. I can't decide though, if telling the new guy about the old guy is a good idea or not. That could go one of two ways...It could motivate the new guy to do better than the guy you fired, or it could intimidate him into not wanting to work for you...Take a minute and think this one through.
Good luck to you.

Like you said, find a new lawyer. The new lawyer can inform you about the best way to refuse the services of the old one.

fire him first. get your paperwork, than get another lawyer.
i had trouble doing it the way you said..no lawyer would take over my case because they felt some kind of "loyalty"? to the lawyer i had hired. the end is result is that i was POORLY represented, took 6 yrs to get a simple divorce and cost $9000.
trust your instincts on it.

First step is to ask your friends for recommendations, they are the best source to find a great lawyer. Once you find one you like, interview him/her and let him/her know the situation. They will be able to advise you accordingly on the rest of your dilemma.
