A couple of days ago I bought my daughter 2 fantail goldfish. When I got them home and adjusted them to the water in the water in our tank. Once in the tank I noticed something underneath one of the underside fins. I thought it was some kind of ICK. So I treated the tank.

I have been watching it everyday and tonight I noticed that It was bigger and it was moving and I could see blood inside the vein things of the fin. I took him out of the tank and took tweezers and pulled it off of the fin and dropped it into a glass of the aquarium water.

OMG!!!! It was living! and swimming around in the glass. NASTY! It is very small but I can see that it is sort of clear with tiny black dots on its back.

If anyone know what this is please help me. I wont be able to get to the pet store till late tomm. Thank you!

It sounds as though you've encountered a fish louse: http://www.koicarp.net/koi_medication/images/argulus.jpg

Remove it from the tank (if you haven't already) so it doesn't reattach to your fish.

See the link below for info on treatment:

It's a parasite but it's not ich (looks like sprinkled grains of salt on your fish) and ich medicine will not stop it. Look for fish medicine that specifically treats parasites and possibly add a dose of Melafix to help your fantail goldfish recover from it's wounds.

Or take copperhead's advice because he/she is more knowledgeable on the specifics =)

sounds like either a fish louse, water beetle larva or isopod (don't know if they have iso's in FW) if that was the only one then removal should work, treat the tank with aquarium salt and discard the parasite
