Can anyone tell me about the books? I really don't read the books, but I do watch the films. Can anyone tell me a rundown about what has/had been happening ever since the first book that had been released?

The movies really do the books justice! We live in a great time of cgi and cinematography magic when books can truly be brought to life and stay true to the books instead of becoming more like an alternate reality to the book!

J.K.Rowlings has done a great job of making certain that they do stick true to the stories.

There have only been minor differences such as Harry's Aunt
Petunia. In the book she was blonde, very slender bird like woman. But the woman who has portrayed her in the movies did a wonderful job in the role!

The train station in the book is not the way it is portrayed in the movie. The train station described in the book was actually an L.A. train station JK Rowling wrote about. The one in the movie is the English train station as it was supposed to have been.

The books are an excellant read! You really would enjoy reading them if you ever have the time. I am a 52 year old grandmother and I do enjoy them and so do my grandchildren.

Everyone seems to think Harry Potter is only for kids. Not so. Books 4, 5 & 6 get much darker and grow in maturity as the characters do. It would be way too complicated to explain the plot to you. Read them. These are some of the most well written books I've ever seen and the eye for detail makes an excellent story. It's your general good vs evil saga. try the books, they are SOOOO MUCH BETTER than the movies!

The context is really what will answer the question for you.
It's a matter of taste.
I happen to think that they're very good.
You just have to know the context and the audience.
They're complete escapism, and fantasy adventure and intended as a quick read. If you like that type of writing (and I do) you'll enjoy them a great deal.
