Hope so, but I doubt it. His body is 42 and I think it is starting to show lately. Maybe if he comes back mid-season like Clemens does every year. Otherwise I think he is going to hang it up after this one. He would make for a good bench player like Julio but like I said I think he is a lot better if he gets enough rest. I don't think he would want to take on that role though because he has a big ego. You see what he did on extended rest today.

I am certain that he'll be back in 2008 (no idea which team -- Oakland maybe) to try for 3000 hits. Which, barring injury, he will achieve. He might very well catch Henderson for the runs record along the way, but if he does fall short I don't think it will tempt him to come back in 2009. It'll be interesting to watch, and probably get too much stupid media coverage because it's Bonds going for the record. I remember when Henderson caught Cobb -- a very long-standing record at the time -- and it barely got a mention on ESPN. But for all Rickey brought, he never inspired the reactive range Bonds does.

3000 hits is a better accomplishment the runs scored record. Remember, 3000 hits would go a long way to prove that it isn't only power numbers that are intriging but look with all of the walks and intentional walks in the process

I think that Bond should go for every record he can reach before he retires from baseball.

Luke is right. Barry could go for 800 HRs too, but father time is catching up to him, and I think he knows it. I would be very surprised to see him come back for another season.

if he stays around another year, i hope the giants trade him. if he wants to hit 20 or 30 more HR's, w/e but he is not helping the giants with his play as of late. he is only bringing them down

No. He should go for the record for most runs scored by anyone not named Rickey. Yeesh. Thanks for highlighting that apparently he has passed Aaron the elder (Henry). I was ignorant of that apparent fact, and now have to go check it out sometime.
