I work early mornings until early afternoon. I try to go to bed early but I have a 5 year old so after chores and bedtime I usually dont get to bed until late, leaving me less time to sleep at night.....this is not something i can work around. After work I come home and usually nap for 2 hours. I have gotten so used to this I nap daily for 2 hours. I am an adult, I feel like a child napping so often. Is there anyway to beef up my energy level so I dont need this afternoon nap.

your stressed out.
you have a five year old child,
you have a job
and you dont get enough sleep
your stressed out.
Ask a friend to babysit your child,
take a day off from work
and make it a you day!
take a bath,
get your nails and hair done.
Try some yoga and breathing exercises, and relax the whole day!!
you could listen to some music that you havent heard since highschool(on youtube or something)

and even after this day, continue to nap, but try 45 minutes. and gradually take away time, and start paying attention to YOU a little bit!

hope i helped.
Good luck

I don't really think it's "childish" to nap, but I am worried about your health. It sounds like you are just sleep deprived, and your body is trying to catch up. Really, rearranging your schedule so you can get more sleep at night seems like the best way to take care of yourself. Perhaps you could start doing some of your nighttime activities during the day, which will allow you to go to bed earlier. I strongly encourage you to find a way to get a proper amount of sleep, because lack of sleep can cause serious problems like depression and fibromyalgia. Caffeine and energy drinks give a temporary pick-me-up, but you just crash all the more later. Stay away from that stuff and just take care of yourself. Also, make sure you are eating healthy and getting the appropriate amount of exercise. If you aren't healthy you won't be as good of a parent or worker.

I understand your exhaustion! For more energy you should try eating healthy foods and a little exercise. I was in the same sleepy rut a few months ago. I was try everything to get out of my sleepy rut. I finally decided to eat right and get some exercise in. But, every now and then a nap is nice! Some of us need more sleep than others. Eat less carbs and sugar. Eat more proteins, fruits, and veggies! Try that for a week. See if it helps!!! But if you aren't getting at least 8 hours of sleep at night your body will require that nap no matter what!!
Good luck!
:)

Heather

There is nothing wrong with napping, but for you to complain, then I believe you may have noticed some increase in the tendency to nap. i have a very active 2yr old so i know how hard it is to rest. If you are not pregnant, then maybe you are gaining weight. So check your weight and if need be adjust your diet. Most important to note is that our diet in todays age leaves a lot to be desired. Dietary supplements go a long way to bridge the gap and increase vitality and overall health. A lot of multivitamins are out there in the market and you may want to try some. Personally I opted to have my dietary supplements customized to suit my particular need and I can tell you I observed tremendous increase in my energy level and overall health.

Improve your diet to include more foods high in B-Complex vitamins. If you aren't taking a multi-vitamin, you might want to start. If this suggestion has no effect then you this may be psychological in nature. If you are unable to release the stress related chemical, seratonin, your body chemistry will get off balance and one of the ways it tries to protect itself is by sleeping. If 15 minutes a day of some kind of cardio exercise and a change in diet don't fix this then you may need to see your doctor for a presciption of something like Zoloft that can correct the imbalance. I wouldn't come to this conclusion if I hadn't walked this path before. Good Luck in getting your balance back.

Take care. An adult should have about 8 hours of sleep for a healthy life. If you sleep less then you may end up being a wreck and may have both mental and physical problem.

Arrange your work and household jobs in a better way so that you can have better sleep.

well, you can try to drink coffee in the morning. also try energy drinks or power bars. but if you are not the type of person that is in to that then just try to play with your child. there is nothing wrong with you its actually healthy to nap, you will not have as much stress... and honey that is a GREAT thing!!!!!!!!!
