I am just curious if we will win this war or will we just retreat and leave this country in a worse economic state?

In defining "win" I am wondering if rather than fighting the war of the Iraqi People could we be done with the war and start spending more money on the security within our country and further investing the money that is being spent on fighting instead on things that will assist our people to improve our quality of life...I hope that makes sense :)

There is no military solution to this war, it is a civil war. If the people of Iraq don't want to resolve there own issues, we can't do it for them.

Saving the billions of dollars we are spending over there doesn't seem like it could hurt our country. I think we are probably hurting Iraq, but they don't want us there and I am tired of Americans dying for someone Else's freedom when they won't stand up themselves.

I don't think most people 'get' the purpose of the war in Iraq.
Sadaam refused to stop his proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. He threw the inspectors out and refused to comply with United Nations request for peacful compliance inspections. There were many reports of weapons buildup and massive abuse of the citizens of the Country.

The U.N. gave the ultimatum, the United States enforced it long after time expired for their compliance. Sadaam had plenty of time to ship the weapons to Syria and/or bury them.

The first part of the war took just a few days and scores of chemical suits were located. Would they have had them if they didn't have the chemicals to fight with?

Then Sadaam was captured, and ultimately his henchmen, also. His sons were killed in a 'shootout' and a lot of searches uncovered many weapons which were destroyed. That was winning the war.

Getting the new government on it's feet took awhile...It took the United States a long time to establish it's government and military, etc. when we were a new Country.

Actually, the war we went in to fight was won after the new Iraqi government was established and the old government no longer existed.

Then a new war began when Iran and Syria decided to fight us and the 'democracy in their region' thing, and began sending in suicide bombers, ammunition, roadside bombs, etc.

The war that is raging now and all over the world is Jihad/al-Qaida/Taliban, etc. led. They have vowed to kill all but other Muslims. That should take them quite awhile, so the war will go on, whether we leave Iraq or not.

By the way, we're still in South Korea 50 years after the war there 'ended', protecting them from the communists--North Korea and China.

Get comfortable watching the twisted news...it's going to be a long bloody ride. According to al-Qaida, the U.S. is next on their list for massive killings. Save yourself. Get ready for the coming disasters. Store extra bottled water, canned food, flashlights and a battery operated radio. Medical emergency supplies, etc.

There is no way to win this thing by military means alone. The Iraqis have to want to compromise something between the 3 factions of them to be able to get something accomplished, or the killing just goes on. There is no way to win this or lose this by military means. It will just go on and on and on unless the Iraqis themselves agree to change. Plus it is not a war anymore, it is an occupation. George W. has been wanting to occupy it for sometime. He will not have the troops pull out, even if the Iraqis ask him to, and they already did.

WE will never win the war in Iraq if we stay a 100 years, because we have already lost it a long time ago. Their leader said yesterday if the troops leaves they will be able to handle just as well as if we were there,. Let's just check it to them, let come what may, I personally don't give a damn what they do. Let them fight it out, and may the best man win. Just don't look back just keep rolling out of that hell hole. Let the fun begin.

America's top Generals acknowledge that there is no military solution to the current Iraq debacle.

We all ready won the war. We rolled into Baghdad in a very short period of time.

What we are seeing in Iraq now is a Civil War. Iraq will have its civil war whether we withdraw our troops in ten minutes or in ten years. The reason: the shia hate the sunni and vice versa.

well, Iraq belongs to the Iraqis so it's their war to win or lose either thru peaceful compromise on a working government or thru tedious decades of bloody civil war. they didn't ask for GW to start a civil war in their country but they're the only ones who can finish it.

well my friend let's look at what's projected...bush extends our footprint there until he leaves office...the new administration begins a phased withdrawal...the Kurds request a strong U.S. presence...the Shite begin infighting for power in the south...Sunni and Shite pick at each other with the Sunni shifting to the west...the Saudis and the Iranian's start some serious eyeball to eyeball...i could go on but i think you get the picture.

Define win?

We won the war in Iraq. Saddam is dead.

This is not a war for Iraq. We won that. This is a war on Terrorism.

Make no mistake. We will never win this. Neither will they.

An analogy: disease.

We can't get rid of it forever, we keep getting hit by it, even when we are at our healthiest, there are disease germs in our blood, waiting for a weak moment, they keep reproducing, turn your back and they are back to full strength in a short time.

Sound familiar?

However, like disease, we have a similar choice.

Retreat, give up,...die.

You can't win a war on Terror. You can lose. It's either fight forever, or give up.

I'll fight, thank you.
