its a lawsuit brought on by the family of a person who died

its like suing a car company becuse it had defective wheels and caused someone to wreck and die

its basically suing a person (or company) because they didn't do something that could have prevented the death of a family member.
Ex. Lack of Security
if some electrical was not done properly causing
electrocution
fault in a car causing the death
stuff like that

It is a civil suit against a "person" (can be a business, etc.) for causing the death of another. It holds them liable for the resulting damages to you for the death of a family member.
