No wiki or dictionary please. I just want a simple (5th grade) explanation of these two concepts and how they are used as a method in science.

Explain the general process of both, and how they basically differ.

In the context of science, realism says that there is an objective reality, independent of any observer. The opposite is the notion that all you experience isn't real, it's just a figment of your imagination. Realism would say that if God exists, then God exists and has a certain character, independent of what we might or might not believe about Him. An opposite would be the idea that God is whatever your mind thinks of.

Pragmatism is the idea that a theory needs to be testable, and needs to demonstrate results. So far, string theory is not pragmatic because it doesn't allow us to make any testable predictions. The theory sounds nice, but does it work?

All things are possible ... but for most people to experience all things ... odds are, not very probable.
