they'll do the generak stuff- weight, date of last period, sexual history....they'll probably do a breast exam and discuss how to do one on your own. then they'll do the internal pelvic exam, which is really just more embarrassing than anything else, though you may experience a bit fo spotting right afterward- nothing serious. during this part, you'll lie back on the table (you have a cover over your lap so its not like "heeeyyyyy my vagina) and the doctor will first insert whats called a speculum. it kind of looks like a piercing clamp, which will apply slight pressure and serve to open the vaginal canal a bit. they are available in different siezes and your doc will use the smallest one that will accomodate your size, shape, etc. she will use one or two fingers to feel your cervix and ovaries, and probably use a swab to take a sample of your cervical cells for a pap smear. and voila your done! she/he should be wearing gloves, and if you have a latex allergy, or even think you may, remember to ask her to use non-latex gloves to avoid an infection. Like i said, you may have a smidge of blood afterward, but it wont even last a day.
Good luck!

First (hopefully!) your doc will sit with you and take your history. This will be before or after you are weighed and asked to put on a gown. Make sure you tell the doc it's your first visit. You will be given a breast exam (by hand - if you are over 39, also a mammogram). You will be asked to put your feet on these support things, then scoot to the end of the table. The doc will lube fingers, insert into you vagina, and put pressure on your pelvic area with the other hand. Then doc will insert a speculum, which is a metal device that gives her access to your cervix for a Pap Smear (make sure your doc will give you a Pap Smear- it tests for cervical cancer which is extremely treatable f caught early). Then, you'll get a quick poke it the rectum with a lubed finger. I swear it is not that bad. The doc has probably seen and heard EVERYTHING so don't be nervous. You MAY be asked to give a urine sample.

you go in and they tell you to put this gown on with the opening in the front. Then you get on the bed and put your feet in the stirrups and he will keep telling to to "scoot forward". The use metal clamps to open you up. He get a long cotton swab and takes a sample. Then the gyn will use KY lube and feel around there. Then he will examine your breasts... have fun.

You received a lot of good advice. Also if your doc. happens to use a medal speculum, make sure she/he warms it up for you first.
