Paint it with Kilz; it will seal it and block the stain. There is also a spray formula that has a straw type thing on it to easily reach the exact spot.

FYI Reason why you have to paint the whole ceiling there is more than 1 shade of white....from your white coffee cup to your white car, to white snow, to white paper.......all are white(or should I say a shade of white with a hint of green, or brown, or red or yellow or blue) So, if it is in a high visibility area (like around a chandalier light) it will stick out like a sore thumb. That is why we do the whole room ceiling. I am guessing you have a stipple ceiling(or sprayed texture). You are going to have to paint the ceiling once it is dry. Then if the ceiling has a stain ring up there(brown or tarrish color) you first need to seal that otherwise it WILL bleed thru your paint job.
You want a spray can of "Kilz"- - a brand name which is a stain stopper.don't need a quart
You want a shellac type stain stopper which is this product. Read the contents on the can or ask the store employee if they are involved in paints. Oil based stain stoppers will not work as all they do is dissolve the stain and mix it into the wet paint being applied.
Shellac does not mix with anything.
Spray the ring line with a light coating of this stuff. You are not trying to cover up the stain with the spray(even though it is white - it is a semi transparent white....you could see thru it like you can see thru colored KoolAid. You just want to get a coating on the ring and other "colored stains" up there. What Kilz does is put a coat of "plastic" over the stain...so it can't go thru. This prevents "bleed thru" where the stain is the same strength after the paint job as it was before(and the next, and the next).
Let that dry for 4 hours or overnight. Then use ceiling paint (latex)and roll on a coat. Now, the stain may not be hidden the first time you put a coat on(depends on the darkness of the stain and the quality of the paint you are using).......so the best way to do this if it is a dark ring is to first just roll a coat on the stained area and let that dry a couple of hours. Now roll the entire ceiling including the stained area again(so now it has 2 coats on the stained area). Let it all dry and no reviewing it until the next day...in good daylight.
Does it look even now,and is everything hidden? Job done.
Also, remember that all paint drips or sprays down, so cover everything over or get it out of the room(unless you like spending even more time cleaning the paint spray off.

Kilz is good, BIN is better for covering stains. Be sure to check for mold on the other side if possible even tho you have bleached. The sealers now come in water clean up and work well. They also come in spray cans and that is really handy and very quick. Then repaint. If your ceiling is white, you might be able to get away with the sealer or just touching up the spot with paint.

Depending on your type of ceiling, Kilz, or a like product works great. It is a bright white, so you may have to repaint the entire ceiling if you cannot match the color. Be aware, if it is textured or a "popcorn" ceiling, too much moisture from the paint will cause the texture to peel off. Spot repair is best if you can do it.

Let it dry out. Then paint with Kilz stain blocker. Once that has dried, then give it a coat or two of the ceiling white or whatever color you choose. good luck.

If the ceiling paint is relatively new and a flat paint you can probably just get a squirt bottle and fill it with a mixture of bleach and water and spray it.

Kilz makes a product that is tinted for age. (Slightly, to match ceilings which were painted previously). It comes in a spray can which sprays upward, so its super easy to use. I've used it several times, in different houses, and it always seems to match up. It only takes seconds to use.

a good way to keep water stain from bleeding through paint is to spray hair spray on it. sounds stupid but it does work. unless the ceiling is fairly new paint you'll have to paint the whole ceiling, because it won't match colors, if its old paint it will have darkened.

You can paint over it with Bin primer sealer and then the whole ceiling will have to be painted cause the primer, even if the ceiling is white, will be a different white.
