My running shoes are pretty grubby, and I wanted to make them a little less sore on the eyes. Would putting them in the washing machine ruin them? Any other advice?

I plan on air drying them, and they're mostly white, but I don't plan on tossing any bleach in because they also have some blue designs.

I wash mine and have the best results when I wash them with a couple of towels. It seems to help the get the really ground in dirt off. I take out the laces , tie the laces together, and toss in the wash , using warm water and tide with bleach. Taking the laces out helps to get the tongue cleaner.
Never put them in the dryer, the heat can loosen the glues. If it really wet on the inside, when the wash cycle is complete, take a rolled up dry wash cloth and stuff it deep into the Nike's. This helps to get some of the excess water soaked in the sole. Remove once you have gotten as much moisture out, then I put in front of a fan or on the A/c Vent ( soles up) . This drys them out really fast.

When you do wash them in the washer, be sure to use one or two old white or light towels to help agitate the wanter and to help buff off the outside dirt from the shoes, but nothing else at the time of washing.
You might also want to use a good dose of febreeze in the water to help with the foot sweat smell, otherwise, as they air dry, which I think is best...they will not smell like an old wet hairy dog! When you air dry them, stuff them with dry rags or towels, again, to help them keep their form, it helps to knock out some wrinkles, too.
Good LUCK!

Putting the shoes in the washer will not hurt them. But do not put in the dryer let them air dry. I wash my nikes all the time. And I also polish them to keep them looking good. But if you do use bleach use very little.

Yes!! I toss mine one a week. The grubby is gone and
definitely air dry, the best for shoes. My shox's actually made it thru my washing skills. ha

I wash my nikes all the time, and as long as you don't throw them in the dryer you should be fine. The spray stuff from foot locker never really worked for me, especially if your shoes have any kind of mesh type stuff on them.

It won't ruin them but you would be better off using one of those bottles of sneaker cleaning fluid that have a little brush on the top. They get the dirt off quickly and don't require a lot of drying off to make the sneakers wearable again.

go for it, but wash them with some towels and it won't be so rough on the machine.
