I love this question, but I'm about to get all scientific. The question represents the common debate of evolution vs. creation. Creation would be the chicken and evolution would be the egg. Why evolutionists would think the egg came first is beyond me. I double checked my sources just in case I was wrong, by the way.

Oh yeah, and also, I think the chicken came first.

the egg came first

in evolution, the time when a creature evolves is when it is being developed,
in the chicken's case, it evolves while inside the egg,
so the first chicken, or first group of chickens, evolved while inside their eggs, and the parents of the first chicken or group of chickens were not a fully fledged chicken,
but their child was.

therefor the egg came first

There's a chicken and an egg laying in bed.

The chicken reaches over and turns on the light and then lights up a cigarette.

The egg snatches up the covers and rolls onto its side as it remarks, "Well, I guess that answers that question, hmph!"

Technically niether, because if we came from a primordial soup, we would have started out as a microorganism, then evolved from there...However, it could be fairly assumed that the egg may have come first because so many species lay eggs; the evolution of the chicken would probably have come much later. (Ya know, if you believe evolution and all).
