I mean if I baked you a cake and I left it in front of your house would you go to prom with me?

That is a cute way to ask. If it was me , I'd say yes. Hopefully she will too. You should have the girls at the cake store/market write on it in frosting: "Would you like to go to prom with me?"

No sorry you're a guy.
But a girl probably would feel uncomfortable if you baked her a cake to ask her. That's a little much and you might end up as a pitty date.
But that is pretty thoughtful. But a simple "Will you go to prom with me" will do. If she says yes you can get her something like a bracelet or earrings or something.

I would prefer something that is not edible like a single rose with a note. But worse case...man-up and ask her. The worst thing that can happen is she'll say no. Good luck.
